Battle of the Books
2026-2027 Sunshine State Young Reader Award Books - Battle of the Books
Students are encouraged to read as many of the 15 SSYRA books as possible. The "Focus Five" used in the final battle are announced near winter break. The books are available as ebooks or audiobooks on Sora and Mackin Via through Clever. The game format itself continues to use Cranium Core. Students may begin reading the books as soon as possible, including over the summer. Copies of these books are available at most local public libraries and are available at our school media center and most 3rd through 5th grade classrooms.

San Jose also participates in the Boys Read Book Battle, which is for boys in grades 3 through 5.
